In 1967, Brazil carried out a currency reform converting its old Cruzeiros to Cruzeiro Novo at the rate of 1000: 1. The obverse has a portrait of Dom Pedro II the last emperor of Brazil, who became the ruler of Brazil at the age of 5 after the abdication of his father,
